I used Site Meter with no problem for several months. Then, one day, my main blog page was screwed up. When I removed the Site Meter it was fine. I tried changing themes, which brought my blog back up, but each time I installed the sidebar code for Site Meter, the same thing happened again (I just cut and pasted the code from the Site Meter webpage, as I had before). The odd thing is that this is only on the Main page….if you click on the “about” or “archive” tabs, you see the blog with its sidebar, as it should be. Any suggestions as to what’s going on?

The other odd thing is that the Site Meter symbol now appears in the footer, instead of the sidebar, where it used to be. And I did use the sidebar editor to install the code. (see archives page).

OK, for anyone else who has this or similar sidebar problems: The problem was in one of my own posts, which contained a link and a quote that apparently had some bad code. I didn’t realize that that could cause a malfunction in the way the whole theme operates. I looked at my Site Meter record, found the last post before it stopped working, deleted it, and everything is back to normal. Live and learn…on the job training.
