Site Locked Down Too Tight?

I must have set too strict a setting on a site I manage. I was warned about the latest attack and set the ping level to 9 login attempts and the lock-out to 1 day.

This seems to have agitated the bot gods because The site has been hammered with pings now for 3 days and I cannot get around it – well over 400 notifications in my inbox.

The links to “temporarily unlock” and “change alert options” and “get a signin for yourself” or something like that – none of them work.

I fear it might be many days before the site settles down and even then maybe my admin login attempt will stir things up again. Help??
