Site loading slooooow or not at all

  • I have two wordpress installs on the same domain: brittanieshey.com and brittanieshey.com/blog

    I can get the blog to load but it takes about 30 seconds. Even the backend/dashboard.

    The main site was also loading slow up until about two hours ago and now it’s not loading at all. I keep getting “too many redirect” errors. I also can’t log into my dashboard — the log in page just keeps refreshing and refreshing.

    I use Bluehost and I hear they’ve had some problems, but I’ve been using them for a long time (several years) and have never had issues. Customer support said there was nothing wrong server-side with the site.

    A few weeks ago I installed a couple of plugins to help improve load times — lazy load, Smash.it and WP Cache. They don’t seem to have helped. And I can’t even log in now to disable them for testing.

  • Both of your links load very quickly for me. Have you tried viewing your site in different browsers and from different computers/locations? How long have you been having these issues, and is it constant, or does it come and go?

    Thanks for looking. I think I probably fixed it by the time you checked. Here’s what I did for both sites:

    1. Disabled my theme and plugins folder by renaming them via FTP client.
    2. Deleted .htaccess file.
    3. Reloaded, reloaded, reloaded until finally the site popped up and I could log in.
    4. Re-enabled theme and plugins by renaming back to the original.
    5. Disabled all plugins and then re-activated one by one to make sure there were no issues.

    The plugins seemed fine. It seems to have been the .htaccess files on both sites. But all is good now… for now, at least. Thanks for your help though.
