site links not working

  • I’ve now got my site installed on XAMPP now and the database is all set up in PHPMyAdmin. When I load the homepage, everything looks okay, but if I click on any of the links on the site it takes me to the XAMPP homepage.

    In fact I can’t get to any of the pages apart from the homepage! The wp-admin and dashboard are all working, it’s just the actual sites posts and pages. They all lead me to the XAMPP homepage!

    Anyone got any idea what’s going on here?

    I decided to delete everything and start again. This time I installed a fresh copy of the latest version of WordPress and all the plugins I needed but kept the old database (it has hundreds and hundreds of posts!).

    This time I still see the homepage, but clicking on any of the links takes me to a 404 page.

    Just to be clear on this, the live site using an exact copy of the database is working fine. Why is the localhost copy giving me 404 errors on all the posts and pages?
