Sorry to here you’re encountering sudden difficulty, hopefully we can assist. Firstly when you mention Site Kit won’t delete are you trying to deactivate and uninstall from your WordPress plugins page? If so do you encounter a message when trying to delete, or is the fatal error you encounter elsewhere?

One additional method of deleting is to remove the Site Kit directory via FTP or your hosting control panels file manager. You’ll find the Site Kit directory at wp-content/plugins/google-site-kit.

Let me know of the above, or if you have any questions on this.

I was trying to update it and it caused a fatal error and my site was shut down then I got an email from WordPress saying that site kit caused the error. So, I logged in in recovery mode and deactivated site kit, and when I tried to activate it again, it caused the error again. Then I decided to delete it and it won’t budge.
I went to the directory and deleted the file there but it is still on the list of inactive plug-ins.

When I click on delete, it goes ‘deleting’ and the nothing happens

Many thanks for the insights, very helpful. I wonder if you have automatic updates enabled, if so something may have went wrong after updating, causing an incomplete plugin update.

I went to the directory and deleted the file there but it is still on the list of inactive plug-ins.

That’s interesting, did you remove the full Site Kit directory from wp-content/plugins/, or just the files within the google-site-kit folder? If not done already please remove the full directory, including the google-site-kit folder. After doing so please attempt to reinstall Site Kit once more.

I went back to the directory and saw that the main folder was still there, even though it was empty, so I deleted it and its all gone now.

However, I re-installed and activated it and it seems to be working fine.

    Thanks James for your help

Great to hear it, many thanks for the update! If you run into the same issue once more be sure to reach out.

As it sounds also that you’ve been using Site Kit for a while we’d love to hear your feedback if you have a moment free.
