    Hi there,
I set up GA and Site Kit the day before yesterday. Site Kit worked fine in the beginning, but today I encountered “Data error in Analytics. The response is not a valid JSON response.” instead of new data.
Read a few threads here dealing with that same error messages but no common solution stood out. No idea, plus I’m not a very technical person.
    Could someone help out here?
    Cheers,
    Jens

Plz ignore. Found my own mistake. Solved.

How did you correct the issue?

Actually, I do not remember. Some basic mistake it was in any case.

@jensth Great to hear you were able to resolve this, thanks for letting us know and updating the topic.

@popeye1 In many cases there were third party plugins that resulted in such behavior, here’s one example. If you’d like to open a support topic we can help troubleshoot your case individually. Please include at what stage this issue occurs.

I had the same JSON response error on a client website. The error was found in a plugin “iThemes Security” > System Tweaks > uncheck next to “Filter Long URL Strings” then click the Save Settings button. Error fixed!

@stansbury Many thanks for the update. We’ve followed with the iThemes team and they’ll be removing this feature for their next major update, so users such as yourself won’t run into such issues. Thanks for letting us know, and be sure to reach out should you have any further queries.

Sir, I have also been running this problem for a long time, but I have tried a lot but it is not getting well, I have also removed all the plugins and tried to find a solution.

@manraj5kumawat If you’d like to open an individual support topic we’d be happy to investigate this with you.

Hi everyone, I’m not really a super techie nor a coder, but I have found the resolution to most. This issue and other found 503 errors were being caused by the PHP Version 7.4. I have noticed it using compatibility checker tools. And as soon as I downgraded to the latest most stable version for most wordpress/woocommerce plugins which is PHP Version 7.3, everything went back to its smoothness. All issues fixed instantaneously.

You will have to do this in your website’s host cPanel or backend configuration tools. Hope this will help a lot.

@busycamel Many thanks for sharing what worked for you in your case. Hopefully that may assist other users in a similar case.

Note that this particular error is a general WordPress error and can occur in situations independent of Site Kit. We’ve determined in the case of Site Kit this can appear in particular with third party plugin conflicts. There may be particular PHP extensions tied to versions that could also impact other plugins, along with Site Kit compatibility.

Thanks again, have a great weekend.

I struggled with this problem for a fair while, trying all the suggestions in turn … until [finally] applying the PHP version tweak.

My site was on 7.4 and setting it back to 7.3 got the Site Kit working fully (so far!!).

I have easy access to my PHP settings in my hosting Control Panel, but I wonder how people that don’t have that sort of access would fare.

I’d suggest the the coders of the Site Kit investigate what works in 7.3 but breaks in 7.4.

@adamnz Really appreciate you sharing the additional insights. We are currently looking into the different PHP extensions that are typically active per PHP variation with different hosting providers. User’s shouldn’t have to revert PHP version so we will investigate this further.

Thanks for the feedback! Sadly, I get these errors with 7.3 now – but not as often.

If have any ideas as to which extensions are suspect, then I can try disabling them.
    I’m also getting this:

@adamnz If you’re encountering a “cURL error 6: getaddrinfo()” error this may not be specific to the PHP extensions active. While we are still looking into the typical extensions active as standard between the PHP versions and hosting providers if you’d like to open an individual support topic I’d be happy to work with you to check the cause of this issue.

After opening a support topic if you would share your Site Health information that would be great. With one other user reporting a similar error I can compare and check your WordPress setup and plugins.
