    Hello,

    few days ago Site Kit stopped working following error:

    I tried to reset che connection but it is always providing the following error:

    Looks like your site is having a technical issue with requesting data from Google services.
To get more help, ask a question on our support forum and include the text of the original error message:
google_api_connection_fail

    No special change performed.

    Tried this command to check connectivty from the host:

    Hello @emilianomaina and thanks for reaching out. This message displays when Site Kit cannot connect to the Google APIs necessary for setup. This can occur if your host, a firewall, plugin, or other configuration is blocking access to https://sitekit.withgoogle.com, which Site Kit must be able to connect to for setup.

    Thanks for providing your Site Health that is very useful. Do you see any errors or warnings when checking your Site Health status (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs to your Site Health information?

    As you do have many active plugins on your site it would be helpful to rule out any conflicts causes by a particular plugin or theme. The best way to do this is to

    1. Login to your site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google”.
    5. Check to see if you get the same message once more.

    You can exit troubleshooting mode once done and while in troubleshooting mode it will not affect what users to your website will see.

    I don’t any relevant error in Site Health status.

    I followed your suggestion, enabling only Site Kit. Unfortunately nothing changed, still the following error:

    How can I further troubleshoot?

    Please consider also I am using Cloudflare CDN but I have a different istance of WP on the same host without CDN and the issue is the same.

    @emilianomaina thank you for providing the information and for also following those steps. Would you please be able to share who your hosting provider is and what package you are using for your site?

    Did you make any notable changes to your site around the time that Site Kit disconnected and you received this message?

    Could you also try going to Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit and then try your Site Kit set up once more to see if this makes any difference?

    My hosting provider is FastComet.
    My hosting package is VPS – Cloud SSD VPS 3.

    No changes in the last weeks (I was involved in another project).

    I tried again Reset Site Kit but the message is still the same:

    Can I perform any check on the host directly or some logs?

    1) In the browser console there are no errors at all; I think the error is handled on server side

    @emilianomaina thanks a lot for your cooperation with this one. This looks like it could be a hosting related issue at this point.

    It’s possible that this could be a firewall issue so as you have been getting an error with the cURL command you could check for any hosting related firewall, or an easy check is to check this from another website running on the same hosting platform to see if you are getting the same results.

    Can be an hosting firewall issue? 403 it’s a response from Google server.

    As already mentioned I have exactly the same issue on all WordPress instances (4) running on the same host.

    This is the answer from Fastcomet support engineer:

    I have temporarily disabled all of the server's security system and have flushed the iptables rules and the Curl request to https://sitekit.withgoogle.com still displays a 403 Forbidden response. Thus, I can confirm that the issue is not related to the server's Firewall.

However, I am afraid that I am unable to confirm why a 403 response is being displayed. It is possible that the server's IP address is being blocked from this URL specifically, however, I am unable to confirm this with certainty.

If possible, please ask the Google support to check if the server's IP address is being blocked on their end - 172.105.246.234.

    I also performed a test from my home and the answer is different:

    1. Do you see any warnings or notices when checking the Site Health status(Tools > Site Health > Status) on each site?
    2. Are each of these 4 setup environments similar or do they differ?
    3. Does the same occur when checking from another device, which can help rule our any local software or browser related issues blocking access?

    No.

    I repeated with an incognito session and the behaviour is the same.

    Have you read the answer from my hosting provider? And my curl test from another client?

    We are going to check this installing Site Kit from new with a clean WordPress install on a standard Fastcomet shared hosting plan we have set up, while performing this check if you wish to do the same on your own plan, then please do.

    Is not possibile that IP of my host is blocked on Google Server side?

    It seems the most probable cause of the problem considering the tests performed.
