Google Site Kit is giving me this error “Ownership verification failed” even though I have add the verification token as a TXT record in my DNS settings. The error also displays “We found these DNS TXT records instead” The record it displays is indeed in my DNS record, but it is below the verification token TXT record. Why does Site Kite not read the entire DNS record? (I added the TXT record many days ago, so I doubt that it is a propagation issue)

Hi @marklovett thanks for opening a support topic with us. To help me understand your issue, please can you share the following:

    1. Your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.?
    2. A recording of the steps you take to encounter this message.
    3. Have you tried all options for verification from this Search Console help guide?

Let me know if you have any questions about the above.

I have submitted the Site Health information via the form. I get the error as soon as I visit the WordPress dashboard, it’s the Site Kit Summary. I have a screen shot of the error, if that would be helpful.

@marklovett Thanks for explaining. So you do not see this issue on the Site Kit dashboard but only the WordPress dashboard Site Kit widget is that correct?

You can share the screenshot via the form you completed above. Could you confirm if you see the error when following the troubleshooting steps here and in troubleshooting mode?

When I go to the Site Kit Dashboard I see the same errors, “Insufficient permissions in Search Console” displayed under “Search traffic over the last 28 days” and See how your content is doing” sections. The errors are also present in troubleshoot mode. I will upload the screenshot.

As I was thinking about this problem showing up, it only happened after I moved my domains from Google to WordPress. Not sure if that is relevant, but I never experienced this issue when my domain was at Google.

@marklovett Thanks for providing the added information. It would be useful at this stage to attempt a Site Kit reset. Once reset could you attempt your Site Kit setup once more and let me know if you then still see the same error?

Please do note also that resetting Site Kit disconnects all users and removes all Site Kit settings, Dashboard Sharing settings and data within WordPress. After resetting, other administrators will need to go through the setup process again. Any users that have access to a view only dashboard will lose access to them.

Please also refer to our guide on the insufficient Search Console error here for more guidance. Let me know if you have any questions.

@marklovett Just checking in here to see if you are still facing issues with your verification?

Hi Adam, I was contacted separately by Filipa Campos at Automattic who suggested that I add a TXT record at my hosting service instead of in the domain record at WordPress. That did the trick, and I am no longer seeing any errors in Site Kit. Thanks for following up!
