    Hi,

I have encountered a few issues with Site Kit not connecting to my existing GA4 property’s data stream. My Property is visible and can be selected in Site Kit > Settings > Analytics, but my primary data stream that’s been collecting data for a few years cannot be found – only the ability to “Set up a new data web stream”.

If I confirm changes within Site Kit to set up the new data stream on my Property, I receive “Requested entity already exists” errors.

I’ve disconnected and reset the Site Kit plugin, including reauthorizing Site Kit with my account. A new Property and a new Data Stream were set up due to the selections made when reconnecting Site Kit. Using the new property and data stream is not a solution unless data migration is possible.

To test further, I manually created a new data stream through Google Analytics, and it turns out that Site Kit has detected the new DS linked to my existing property. Unfortunately, however, the existing data stream is still not visible.

I have read through multiple other forum posts related to Site Kit but am yet to find a solution. All configurations were made using the same account. No other method of adding the GA or GTM tags is employed at this time. The version I’m using is v1.102.0.

Please help me figure this thing out and finalise the GA4 integration with Site Kit.

    Thanks!

Hello @kevbot1 Thanks for getting in touch and for your detailed explanation. Can I please ask if the URL for the data stream you wish to select matches your website URL? You can check the data stream URL by going to your Analytics account admin section and selecting the property > Data Streams > Your data stream.

Currently Site Kit will not list a data stream where the stream URL does not match the site URL. We have recently opened a GitHub issue for this which will be investigated. You can follow this for updates.

If this is not the case and these match then could you please share the following information so I can investigate this further:

    1. ?Your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.
    2. Any screenshots or recordings of the experience.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Hi @adamdunnage,

Thank you for your rapid response on this issue. Great support!

The stream URL does match the website URL, so unfortunately, we’re not putting a finger on the problem with that particular scenario. I have filled out your form and created a Loom walking through the issue that I’m having. I hope it’s helpful.

As mentioned in the Loom video and this post, when I manually create a new Data Stream in Analytics > Admin > Data Streams, Site Kit detects the new entity and lists it against my existing property. If there is no loss or compromise of data by moving across to a new data stream, I’ll be happy to do so to continue accruing analytics from the correct property. Let me know if that’s a feasible workaround.

I have left the new Property and DS that was automatically created by Site Kit operational, which will show when testing our site tags. I left it intact so you have the opportunity to investigate and, hopefully, find the source of any bugs or confusion here.

I’m hoping to get a response from you about a permanent solution or validating my workaround without too much fuss so I don’t continue to collect data in the property that I’ll be killing for too long.

    Much obliged.

@kevbot1 Thanks a lot for all the useful information and the video which is a great help. I will perform some testing on my side today and discuss this further with the internal team and get back to you later today once I have an update.

@kevbot1 Thank you for your patience while I checked this. While I haven’t been able to find a cause as to why your original data stream is not being listed, I can confirm that using another data stream in the same Analytics property will display the same data in the dashboard.

This is because we filter the data currently by the Analytics property and not the data stream. So this is a workaround for you at this time if you wish to choose this method.

The team will discuss internally about the possibility of filtering the Analytics data in the dashboard by the data stream but at this time you can use the newly created data stream without worry you have lost data.

I hope this helps but please do let me know if there are any other questions you have.

@kevbot1 Just to follow up here on this, while reviewing your shared recording once more we noticed that the data stream not displaying is missing a URL scheme (http/https://) which could explain why Site Kit is not showing it as a valid choice.

Which scheme you choose shouldn’t matter, but could you try adding that to your data stream from your Analytics account and let me know if you can then select this from Site Kit?

    @adamdunnage,

Now that is embarrassing. What was discreet and missed on numerous passes is now screamingly obvious. And making the small amendment has resulted in the fix!

The only bug was in my configuration, not your plugin. I hope that others can get value out of this post and your support, as I have.

    Thank you!

Many thanks for the update @kevbot1, great to hear that all sounds good now with your set up. If you run into any issues or if you have any Site Kit related queries be sure to reach out.

If you have a moment free please also consider sharing your thoughts on the plugin. We’d love to hear your feedback.

Currently Site Kit will not list a data stream where the stream URL does not match the site URL.?

Thanks for the useful info guys, I had the same problem and after a lot of head scratching, this fixed it for me.

The first letter of my domain (following https://) was a capital letter for some reason. Not quite sure how it ended up like that, but changing it to lower case made the data stream appear correctly in Site Kit.

Glad to hear it @ogdendigital! We are working to ensure that all web data streams within a selected property are available. See more below:

    Best of luck!
