    I have Yoast to handle SEO including meta descriptions on my site.

    I have Site Kit to track Google metrics. Unfortunately it has recently started to output a second meta description and I can’t find any way to turn it off or even to edit the text in it. Why is this happening all of a sudden and how do I stop it?

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @fostercoburn thanks for reaching out!

    Site Kit should not be outputting meta descriptions, so we should definitely investigate further.

    Could you temporarily deactivate Site Kit and check if the second meta description persists or goes away?

    Deactivating Site Kit did not solve the problem. I also updated to 1.23 and that didn’t help.

    The specific code that should NOT be there starts with the code pasted below.

    <meta name=”generator” content=”Site Kit by Google 1.23.0″ /><meta name=”description” content=”We offer two different vehicle templates

    I’m not sure why Site Kit would “generate” anything.

    @fostercoburn thanks for your reply.

    If deactivating Site Kit did not remove the meta description tag, there might be something else involved. Site Kit does not print to the source code when deactivated. The meta generator tag is standard when the plugin is activated, but the meta description tag would not be something Site Kit places.

    Have you tried to deactivate other plugins or switch to a default theme to see which could be involved? While this effects only the experience of the logged in user, you could try using the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin‘s troubleshooting mode for these purposes.

    I tried switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme. The site was a complete disaster and both meta descriptions were still there. I’ve also disabled quite a few different plugins to no avail. As the site is a live ecommerce site, I have to test in small batches so the site will still function.

    @fostercoburn thanks for your reply and I understand. If you can spot the double meta description tags while logged in, it may be safer to use the Health Check plugin to see if another plugin is involved.

    @fostercoburn since this does not appear related to Site Kit, I have marked your topic as resolved. If you have any further questions or concerns about the plugin, feel free to open a new support topic.
