• I’ve been using a called theme Beyond for many years. The developer has not updated it for a long time.

    The site had been running fine until last night. I saw a message in my WP admin saying the PHP version was outdated. It was at 5.6. So I updated it to PHP 8.2 in my cpanel.

    That broke the site. I received this email:

    Error Details
    =============
    An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 512 of the file /home/leedsfireplaces/public_html/wp-content/themes/beyond/functions.php. Error message: Uncaught Error: Undefined constant “beyond” in /home/leedsfireplaces/public_html/wp-content/themes/beyond/functions.php:512

    So I reverted back to PHP 5.6, and all was well. I then raised a ticket with my host. All they said was there was a problem with the theme. They changed the PHP version to 8.2. The thing is, I can no longer access the site, even after changing it back to PHP 5.6.

    I’m not technically savvy enough to fix code; none of it makes sense to me. Can anyone help, please?

    Thank you in advance.

    Yes, I do.

    Looks like it was a caching issue, I’m able to aceess the site in an icognito tab. I’ll have the site rebuilt with an updated theme. Thank you for taking a look.

    That’s good news.

    I’ll have the site rebuilt with an updated theme.

    This is the solution. Make sure you pick a theme that is well-maintained, and ideally block-enabled to benefit from the improved performance. Astra, Kadence, Blocksy are a few examples that have great reviews and solid teams behind them.

    Best wishes with the rebuild.
