I still see the WordPress logo. Did you save the changed settings?

@soberbanda Thank you for your help. I have cleared cache, tried using another image, published my updates and the favicon is still showing as WordPress.

Is it the site logo?

Try reverting to the default theme > change the favicon > change back to your theme

@soberbanda Thank you so much for your help! I tried the reverting back to an old theme but it didn’t work, so I followed the thread you kindly suggested and I now have a plugin which has made it work. It is annoying that I have to have a plug in just for a Favicon but at least it is working! Thank you.
