“Loopback requests are used to run scheduled events, and are also used by the built-in editors for themes and plugins to verify code stability.

The loopback request returned an unexpected http status code, 404, it was not possible to determine if this will prevent features from working as expected.”

I’ve tried to look up this issue but I’m not finding anything recent that fits my situation, most refers to cURL errors, whereas I’m getting a 404 error instead.

This issue does not seem to be affecting the front end of my website (though scheduled publishing is currently untested), but it is most definitely affecting critical backend functions like my scheduled backups, which are supposed to automatically run database backups daily and full site backups weekly. None of these backups are running automatically, forcing me to manually run a backup whenever I log in.

I’d like some direction into what the possible causes of this error could be so I can begin to work on a resolution.

My website uses Thesis theme, and the plugin I’m using for automated backups is BackUpWordPress. Additional plugins I’m using (in case anyone knows of any issues with any of them that could be triggering the loopback 404 error):

    – Classic Editor
    – Contact Form 7
    – Easy Testimonials (Free version)
    – Google Analytics Dashboard
    – Hide Page and Post Title
    – Invisible Recaptcha
    – Latest Posts
    – Mail Optin Lite
    – Page Builder by Site Origin
    – Portfolio (free)
    – Really Simple SSL
    – Shareaholic
    – Site Origin Widgets Bundle
    – W3 Total Cache
    – WordFence Security
    – WP Hide & Security Enhancer

If anyone has any suggestions on where this issue could be coming from, I’d love to hear it.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict, or a firewall issue. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If the above steps don’t help, ask your host why loopback is failing.
