site doesn't work on computer, does work on phone

  • I’m new to wordpress (as of today), and started setting up my site, ebikeschooldotcom. the problem is that I can only access my site and my wp-admin from my phone. When I try on my computer using FF, chrome and safari it simply doesn’t load or says it can’t connect. It works fine on my phone. Also, if I tether my phone’s internet to my computer, suddenly it works in all browsers. So it seems perhaps its a problem with my wifi or ISP? Can anyone walk me through fixing it?

  • Give it a few hours. If you’re just set everything up, maybe DNS hasn’t updated everywhere. That’s why you’re able to access on one connection but not the other.

    Thanks Viktor. Though a day later I still have the problem. But now I notice that when I try to access my site from my phone using my home wifi, I still get the problem, just like my computer. But when I switch my phone to 3G, I can access my site on my phone.

    So it seems specific to my house/router/ISP….maybe?

    Hmm. Do me a favor, try using Google’s DNS instead on you PC. Whatever your OS is, just Google for “How to setup Google DNS on Windows 8” or whatever your OS is. The instructions will tell you where to update to Google’s DNS IPs, which is 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

    Let me know how that works.

    Problem resolved! I had updated the nameservers about a day before and it appears my ISP took much longer for the propagation. Thanks for your assistance!
