• I’m hosting a wordpress website on Bluehost and used a theme of YITH. I had problems with the blog page and for some reason I thought it was a good idead to install Elementor plugin. By doing so Elementor overrode the theme, deleting it entirely and now I miss the home page and all the fonts and features of the website have changed. Now I can’t access or edit the site.

I have deleted the Elementor plugin, but no succes. I believe I would need to reinstall the theme, undo the changes caused by the elementor plugin. I can restore a back up since I have created a lot of content already the past days and cant afford to lose it.

Can anyone help me, what’s the best thing I can do?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @joycehelene what do you mean by “can’t access or edit the site”? In wordpress, there is “Revisions”, you can restore previous content of the homepage by that function. Calm down and there must be solutions.

Hi Victor, thanks for getting back to me. I wish it was just a revision of the content of the post or page, but this is of another nature. Unfortunately I can send a screen shot, and I’m a bit of a “technical” dummie, so I’ll share a big story to explain, but what it looks like is this:

    • I had registered with Bluehost, bought a domain name, choose a theme and got started with it. As you will know the theme comes with some default pages, like Home, About, Contact, Blog, Sample page. If I wanted to change the the layout, text or template of the pages connected with the them I had to go to the left top side of the screen, click on the domain name and go to “visit website”. From there I could go to “Edit Site” to go to the default pages and templates which came with the chosen theme.
    • It was working well, although I had some technical problems with the Blog page and posts. Therefore I had asked for some advise and someone mentioned that with Elementor I could solve those problem. So I installed Elementor plugin.
    • So I activated that plugin, thinking it would just be some kind of tool to improve the functioning of the website, but Elementor comes with it’s own themes as well.
    • What I didn’t realise what that by installing Elementor, the Bluehost theme was overriden. Because it it seems that the Site is gone,
    • Everything is changed a bit, header, footer, but also the font and use of default colors, spacing of blocks, layout of page, all changed a bit.
    • So what I then did, was deactive Elementor plugin, hoping my website would go back to normal, but it didn’t.
    • When I go to themes I do see the theme I have been using, but I’m afraid that when I reactive the theme that I will need to start over from scratch to set up the basic structure of the website inclusing the content I have written.
    • I did find back ups which I could restore and try to see if that works, and help restore the initial version without the elementor plugin. So I think the only thing I can do is restore one of the back ups which were automatically created by Jetpack. Going back a day and hope this will revert and restore the website

    Hello @joycehelene,

Thank you for reaching out. While reviewing your site I currently see it loading with no issues using the YITH theme you mentioned you were originally using. I assume changing the theme, or restoring from your backup after the Elementor plugin was installed, corrected the issue?

If you are continuing to experience issues with your site, I would suggest you reach out to our live support who would be happy to investigate this concern further.

Hi@joycehelene I hope everything is well. Since it is a complicated issue, I think it’s better for me to take a look at it from your dashboard so to give a final solution.
