I set up a website for a friend using WordPress. Everything was working fine the first couple of weeks. But now, whenever you go to the site using IE or Opera, the site looks horrendous. The sidebar falls to the bottom of the screen in Opera, the page is mis-aligned in IE and you get a syntax error message. However, everything looks fine using Firefox.

The person said that they tried installing the Simpsons plugin. So I went in and de-activated it, however I’m not sure if it installed extra code elsewhere or not. I don’t think it worked because I did not allow for those type of things in the re-modding of Kubrick. But, this just started happening in the past couple of days. So surely it wasn’t that plugin.

I used Uniserver to install a fresh copy of WordPress locally, I installed their theme into the fresh copy and it worked & looked fine in all of the browsers.

I then made a backup of their WordPress database (online) and imported it into the fresh installation (locally). After importing and refreshing the browsers it was as messed up as it was online, doing all the things it was doing online.

Anyone have any clue what could have happened?

    The site is at:
    https://jaytonline.com

    Thanks,
    Andy Melton

  • Sorry, I get a “redirecting” and then a blank page.
Usually, though the problem is something in a recent post that’s whacked or an image or uri is too wide for the body or sidebar containers. IE just throws in the towel.

p.s. According to others you can not do a redirect with WP if you are.

Looks like it works correctly here ..

Samboll: WordPress is installed in a subdirectory of the website, so in the root of the website I have a page redirector that directs the users to the word press folder, it has worked and it still seems to be working.

I will check into the images, I was kind of thinking that. I also got to thinking it may be how they formatted some of the posts. Thanks!

DesignPastor: Thanks, but it still looks horrid in IE & Opera for me. Looks good in Firefox though.

Got it, thanks, changing status to resolved. It was a problem with their code inside of their post. Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.

They (or you) should start here:

Do they use the wysiwyg to post?

Hey moshu, thanks, yeah, he uses the WYSIWYG editor. I think what I’ll try and do is get him to use HTML markup which will work with the CSS file.
