Site Description Doesn’t Show up in Google Search Results

Well, I would ask you what is your URL.

However, my suggestion for the search engines is to go into your header.php tag and put in a meta description

<meta name="description" content="Your Site Description">

check your header if have a ‘nofollow’ meta robot tag despite your seo pack.

I didn’t see a nofollow robot tag, and I added the meta description in the header.

Still no change in the search results, but I assume the change won’t be instant.

Changes are not usually instant, perhaps 24 to 72 hours on average, just like domain propogation.

Check that you don’t have a robots.txt that’s blocking web crawlers too, of course.

Might be worth checking Admin > Settings > Privacy too while you’re at it.

If they post their site URL here and do not want their site seen yet by search engines, it will be seen as WPorg allows this. I do not think it is necessary to see their website.

Not quite sure what you’re saying there? Sounds like the OP wants to be seen by search engines? Sometimes it’s just quicker to have a scout around a site yourself to see what sort of indexing problems it might have.

me? Well, WordPress Support forum questions are seen and gobbled eagerly by the search engines, hence why it would not be ideal for Moessap to post their site URL.

I also wouldn’t advise hard coding a meta description into your header.php file, as it’d create duplicate meta descriptions throughout a site. Far better to use a plugin like All in one SEO for that to create a different one for each page, which it sounds like they’re using anyway.

Oh my god… my privacy was set at “I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors”… I had no idea.

Well I’m hoping that was it… I’m going to delete the meta stuff I added to the header like you said so I don’t get duplicate content.

Would this also take a couple days to update in the search engines?

Sometimes it can take within 24 hours, and other times a few days.

As for @alism, there are a lot more people who would recommend a general meta for the site. The only issue is to not use many tags. Should not be more than 10 on the page, which includes your front page with the fresh content. The All-In-One SEO, deals more with the individual posts…. you still need to help the whole of the site too.

Moessap, yes, anywhere between a day and a couple of weeks, depending on how popular your site is. Patience is the key now.

blondishnet, yes, there probably are a lot more people who would recommend using identical meta descriptions on every single page. But they’d all be wrong too. ??

I’m just wondering cause I don’t wanna wait two weeks waiting for it to show up, then have it not actually being the problem. Any way to know for sure what the problem was? Guess not eh.
