Site Crashing

It appears that the latest update to the Event Calendar has created some problems; it brought our entire webserver to a grinding halt, at least that’s what we’ve been able to deduce through a process of elimination. I’m not really sure how much more help I can offer, other than to simply note that there’s a problem. The moment I reactivate the plugin, our site stops working. We start to experience 503 errors, 500 errors, and other timeouts. When discussing these problems with our hosting company, they noted problems with wp-cron calls.
We’ve been using this plugin for years, so I’m not sure what the problem is or even where to begin.
