• For some reason our .htaccess has been rewritten by an ‘act of god’
Which caused our site to crash…

    https://pastebin.com/TrakgvjV

We fixed it by replacing this htacces by an old one.

BUT does anyone know the cause of this rewrite?

    Many many thanks…

  • HI Fiboni,

It seems to be some sort of malware. It is checking the referrer and if the referrer matches to any of the link, most probably it will redirect you somewhere.

You can try to search for your website from Google, and click on the result which links to your website to confirm.

Nothing happens as an ‘act of god’ on web servers ?? In this case you need to find out from where the malicious user managed to gain access to write to the .htaccess file.

    Thanks for your reply Johnb81,

I have already mailed my provider, but ofcourse they are clueless, and I hvae no idea where this malicious user gained access the rewrite the file

Check your server raw access logs, change permissions on .htaccess file

If you have access to the logs (most probably through Cpanel you do) past any suspicious activity you might notice.

Remove any ip’s etc for security reasons.

Most of the hosting providers do not have trained members to deal with malware.

Also you should check your WordPress to make sure there isn’t a backdoor there, since if there is, each time you clean it will get re-infected again.
