Site completely offline after installation

What version of PHP and Apache are you running?

I’m trying to get the PHP info, but running phpinfo also results in ‘internal sever error’, as does everything I’m trying to do since the plugin.

I don’t see anything left in this file related to Quick Cache.

I’d suggest that you start by taking out those iThemes rules to try and narrow things down a bit on your end. For instance, try it like this.

If that doesn’t work, try emptying your entire .htaccess file.

Again, not seeing a connection to QC here.

I noticed that you have a couple of UTF-8 chars in this file. I suppose those could have become corrupted in some way. Please report back after removing the iThemes portion from your .htaccess file. If that corrects the issue it might give us something to go on.

Sadly, changing the htaccess file did not work.
The relation with QC has been removed. It may not have been the best idea, but after several hours of trying to fix the issue that started after enabling quick-cache I tried removing everything related to QC.

The htaccess file was cleaned, the plugin folder was removed and in the content folder everything related to ‘cache’ was deleted.

I’m wondering what changes QC makes after being enabled besides creating some cache files and changing the htaccess files. Is there any place I forgot to look?

Check to be sure that you don’t still have this file: /wp-content/advanced-cache.php. If you still have that file please delete it. That’s it. You covered everything else.

Sorry, also remove define('WP_CACHE', TRUE); from your /wp-config.php file.

In the future it is best to delete the plugin using the WP Dashboard. First go to your Quick Cache options panel and turn off Deactivation and/or Plugin Deletion Safeguards. _Then_ deactivate and delete Quick Cache. This way QC will clean itself up for you.

The removal of define(wp cache etc.) changed the error. I deleted this before, but it appears I may have deleted a bit too much of it.

Anyways, the error changed to ‘failed to make a connection to the database’ (roughly translated)

Oh dear, for reasons absolutely unknown to me the error switched back to the one before…

I’ll probably just have to pay my host to load yesterdays backup if it’s not too expensive :p

@croppedmedia I thought I’d mention that Internal Server Errors are most often the result of bad rules in your .htaccess file, or permissions issues on your .htaccess file, or a configuration issue with your web server. The former two are the more likely.

I recommend contacting your web host to see if they can help you fix this, as they’ll be able to identify exactly what’s wrong and fix it for you (or tell you how).

I haven’t seen Quick Cache cause this type of problem before, so it sounds like it might have been a quirky issue with your hosting account.

I’m happy to report the site is back up and running. I’m guessing the initial internal server error was a result of running QC, and therefore my admin panel and website went offline. Trying to fix it through FTP may have worsened it, because I probably removed too much ??

Anyways, it’s back up – I’m not sure why to be honest ??
