I have upgraded to version 2.7. The site runs fine but I can’t get to the site admin to edit or post new blogs. When I click on the “site admin” link I get the following message:
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_user_settings() in /home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-admin/admin-header.php on line 14”

Does anyone know of a solution?

  • I’d first consider deleting the WordPress files, then reupload, per Steps 7 and 8 in Upgrading_WordPress_Extended.

Uploading WordPress to a remote host

Thanks for the response. I’ve deleted all files, loaded fresh ones of version 2.7 and uploaded them.

    Now I get:

Warning: main(/home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-includes/canonical.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-settings.php on line 307

Warning: main(/home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-includes/canonical.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-settings.php on line 307

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-includes/canonical.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/geekol2/public_html/blog/wp-settings.php on line 307

I had problems with my last upgrade as well and eneded up rebuilding the site from scratch. I really don’t want to do that each time as it takes days to reconstruct the site.

Maybe it’s just me, but this error seems like the answer should be pretty obvious. It is telling you that the file it’s looking for is not there. Specifically, /wp-includes/canonical.php.

Why not look at your site and see if that file is actually there, eh?

Dang, that was obvious. I upload the entire folder. I’m not sure why that file was missed. Thanks. I’m up and running now.

I am getting a ton of errors, too. This site I installed a brand new wordpress 2.7 site. used blue-wordpress-theme
    which may be the problem.
I’ve reinstalled the problem files, but that doesn’t help. I was able to edit the site last night, but can not get in today.

    Not very word press friendly.
I never had this problem with 2.6, but than again, it could be the theme. Get what you pay for I guess. ; )
