I am having problems with managing multiple blocks with singlepics in the WP 5 block editor. I followed the documentation but it hasn’t been updated for WP 5 and the block editor yet. Using the following steps I can add a singlepic to a block:

    1. Add a Gallery block
    2. Click Media Library
    3. Click NextGEN Gallery from left panel
    4. Select gallery containing desired image
    5. Click Show on desired image
    6. Select Thumbnail, Full size, or Singlepic as desired
    7. Click Insert into Post

This seems to work however if I now want to add a separate block later on with another singlepic, the two singlepics show up together in the first block rather than as separate blocks. The goal would be to be able to manage multiple images within a page, each as individual blocks but this does not seem to be working.

I should add that the reason I’ve used the above steps to add the singlepic (as a Gallery block) is because there does not seem to be a means to add them with a NextGEN Gallery block. When I add a NextGEN Gallery block, I don’t have the option of adding a single photo only Basic Thumbnails, Basic Slideshow, Basic ImageBrowser, or Basic TagCloud.

What I see happening is that when I add a Gallery block, an empty Gallery block is created and the image shows up in a NextGEN Gallery block. Attempting to add the second singlepic later on winds up putting the singlepic into the first NextGEN Gallery block. An ugly hack to work around this is to duplicate the NextGEN Gallery block and then delete one of the singlepics in each of the blocks, so now I have two independent NextGEN Gallery blocks with a single image that I can manage, but this is cumbersome at best.

    Hello @fahnoe

Please accept my sincere apology on behalf of our company.

Yes, indeed we are currently working on enabling a “Single Image” photograph using our NextGen Gallery block. Our developers are aware that’s is one of our top priorities.

    Again, apologies.

Thanks, I’m glad to know that singlepics are a priority for you to get working, I look forward to being able to use single images in NextGEN Gallery blocks.

    8 months it was a priority…
    Thread resolved they say !

Easy way to get rid of a problem which is still not solved.

    Hi,

I’m using version 5.3 and the singlepic shortcode doesn’t work (e.g. [singlepic id=1069])

Any idea how to get this working?

    Thanks

    Joerg

So it is still not solved !

The only way with wordpress 5 and Gutenberg I could find, is to use the “old” method.
I have different templates placed in a directory “nggallery” in the directory of my child theme.
    Exemple with a template named : singlepic-no_exif.php
    Then I use the shortcode : [singlepic id=403 w=584 float=center template=no_exif]
    It works for me.

I am using this plugin since several years, when it was just Alex Rabe who developed it. I have done so many modifications inside this plugin for my own use, and to have it to my taste, that I cannot confirm using a template will work on a today version of this plugin.
I don’t care anymore to update the versions coming from Imagely since quite a while.

Maybe this help and you could give a try :
You can find an example of a singlepic template in the plugin itself :
    nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/ngglegacy/view/singlepic.php
And you can go in the settings : Gallery Parameters -> NextGen Basic SinglePic and choose your template.

this doesn’t work for me either.

What do you use to place a single pic within a post instead of using wp itself?

As I explained just above, I am using a shotcode within WP itself :
    In a block [/] short code, I place a Nextgen shortcode of this type : [singlepic id=403 w=584 float=center template=no_exif].
But once again, I am using a template and I think this why it works.
Doing like this, you need to know the image number you want to put inside your post, no interactive way to choose the image as it was before Gutenberg and WordPress 5.
