Singlepic float command

I use the singlepic command very successfully, using the float command too. However I have just discovered that Internet Explorer 8 works on the singlepic without the float but doesn’t like the float command and won’t display the photo.
Firefox, Safari, Chrome IE10 all work fine. Is this something we have to live with due to the inadequacy of IE6 or is there something which can be done?
I’d rather keep using the float command as I think it works very well with all the other browsers.
