Single quotes/apostrophes in names

Hi Adam,

I just tried this with my install and it worked. I did notice that the name you pasted in your support ticket is “O’Brien” instead of “O’Brien” which looks very similar except it has the smart-quote. If you replace that with the single quote you find on your keyboard you should be good to go. I will look to see about modifying the import and forms so it auto-changes it for people. Let me know if that doesn’t resolve the issue.

It looks like typing it does indeed work, but I feel like the importer/entry form should probably replace smart quotes with single quotes, since I and many other people are importing these from a CSV file. It’s also a bit weird that the name echo’d back has slashes preceding the quotes–is there some sort of escaping feature gone wrong there?

Hello, I am also having issues with this. I have Tyler O’Malley in my guest list without smart-quotes and I get the error “We were unable to find anyone with a name of Tyler O’Malley”

I also tried copying and pasting the name from my actual guest list into the RSVP fields and I still get the same error. All my other names without apostrophes work and I’m using Version 2.5.7. Any thoughts?

Hello,

The Tyler O’Malley you have posted in this forum post is a smart quote. Could you send me the actual excel file you are using? That way I can see if I can implement a fix for it. Alternatively, you can go into the admin area of the RSVP plugin and edit the attendee and replace it with a normal single-quote like you have on your keyboard.

The forum autochanged my apostrophe to a smart quote. I also tried changing the imported guest list directly in the RSVP plugin and typing the apostrophe directly. That didn’t work either.

I sent you the excel file to [email protected] with just the “O’Malley” names in it that I used to upload. Let me know if you didn’t get it.

Perhaps the importer should automatically replace smart quotes with single quotes, and do the search input without quotes against the name without quotes? Seems like this is causing a lot of problems ??

For reference, were this a Postgres fulltext search, for example, the quotes aren’t considered at all.

I just released 2.5.8 which should fix the problem (it did for me).
