Hey there, and thanks in advance
banging my head against the wall trying to figure out if there is a way to have a single post inherit a custom template from it’s custom parent page.

    For example:
I created a custom page and template, and it displays the excerpt of a specific category. When i click the link, it takes me to the post, but it is styled like the rest of the site, and I want it to be styled like the page it came from.

    make sense? thanks again
    scott

    1. First mistake – don’t use Pages for displaying category listings/archive. Pages are not for that.
    2. Use Category_Templates instead.
    3. Then use this plugin:

(Note: another plugin is also mentioned on Kaf’s page)

thanks, but, the tricky part is I need a custom template only if i come off a certain category template. If i hit the single post from, say, the home page, i want it to use the original style used for the rest of the site. Make sense? I need someway to evaluate where the user came from…

It might make sense but I’ve never seen a solution for it. (You still don’t need Pages for categories…)
