    also, i have changed the page to use the “no sidebar” page template, if I leave it as “default” template then the sidebar will be positioned at the bottom of the page. I am not sure if this is a related issue or if this is a completely different problem

    I was able to resolve this. The dd and dt class tags in the themes css were over riding the code for the plug-in, so I just removed the formatting for these tags in the themes css.
