    Hi Guys
So i have 4 different designs / artwork which I want to print and sell on to 3 different products (tee-shirt, poster and mousemat)

So I create a variable product called ‘Design 1’ – when I click on to this product, I want my users to be able to easily navigate the descriptions and details for the tee-shirt, poster and mousemat.

Is it better to create 4 products with different variations, or will i be better creating 12 separate products under 3 categories?

thanks, this is really bamboozling me, I want my users to have an easy time navigating around each design.

  • Hi @herbiehysteria! Either option would work. From your description, I’d actually recommend a third setup, which is having three products (t-shirt, poster, mousemat) and having the different designs be the variations for those products.

With global attributes, you can use the same attributes to create variations for all three products.

Ideally, I’d like my users to click on the design (home static shop page), and then be sent to a product page where they can easily toggle between the tee-shirt, poster and mousemat for that particular design

Each toggle would have it’s own descriptions, prices and attributes.

the problem i have is that the designs are more important than the products. i mean, i would like my homepage to be a 9 x 9 grid of the artworks, so ideally id like each design to click through to a nproduct page with 3 products, ideally in an accordian / toggle type of a visual

    thanks for the kind response

Hi @herbiehysteria, thanks for clarifying. In regards to your original question:

    > Is it better to create 4 products with different variations, or will i be better creating 12 separate products under 3 categories?

Really either one would work. In my opinion, doing the separate products “feels” more natural, but that is very subjective.

There are a couple of advantages to doing the stand-alone products, though:

    1. It would be slightly easier to create a custom page with all the products for a given design if the products are separate products rather than variations.

    2. It would be easier to add data like product images and categories/tags if the products were separate products rather than variations.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any further questions!
