single-ai1ec_event.php – adds comments to pages

This is weird! I can not switch off page comments, no matter what I do.
I switch off page comments.
I then visit the events page.
The next page I visit has comments switched on.I’ve created single-ai1ec_event.php which contains the page.php code – so the event details page looks like a page and not a blog post. I’ve removed every mention of comments – here’s my code https://pastebin.ca/2329204
