Since latest WordPress, the search results sorting order changed ?!? O_o

    Hello,

    I am puzzled, I found, on a private blog, that since wordpress 3.7.1 (either a cause or a coincidence), the sorting order of the search results had changed.

    In the past, if I searched for “keyword combo”, I would be all matching post titles and post contents, sorted by date of publication.

    From now on, I am first shown the posts whose title contain the requested terms, and then, even if they are more recent, the posts whose contents contain the requests terms.

    Initial display :
    – everything matching, by publication date
    New display :
    – matching titles, by publication date
    – matching contents, by publication date

    Maybe I found a new way to screw up my blog (and yet I don’t think I changed anything related to the system or my server lately).
    Or else that might not be a bug, but a feature (haaa…)

    Would someone know the reason behind this, maybe, please ?

    And, more than that, would you know if there’s a way to change the display of the search results back to how it used to be ?

    Hey.

    It’s not a bug. ?? Since v3.7, search results have been ordered by relevance as opposed to chronologically.

    Well, I’m toast. In my personal selfish case, relevance kills effectiveness, as 3 years old posts now appear BEFORE actually useful posts dated last week.

    Still, as it is, it’s my own problem, I’ll have to check if there are plugins to do something about it.
    I’ll try to remember to self-reply in here if, in the future, I find a worthy alternative, hopefully it could help other people too.

    I wish the wordpress team had made a proper announcement about it, but, well, at least, in the current case, case closed !

    @jan : I had used for another post that was not published, where I wondered if there was not an actual bug with the forum system itself, regarding the timestamps of posts awaiting moderation ??

    You may wish to use the Q2W3 Post Order Plugin.
