Since the last plugin update (Really Simple SSL from version 6.2.0 to 6.2.1), I can’t log into the Admin dashboard of my site. I checked two Admin logins and a test (regular user – customer login) on two different browsers. I get an error: “An error was encountered when trying to authenticate. Please try again.” See screenshots:

    Regular User (Customer): https://snipboard.io/2ENI3P.jpg

I have the free SSL plugin and the Pro Version. I saw that the free version auto-updated at 1:03PM today (EST). Only the free version updated. I did not receive a notice that the Pro version also updated.

I do have WordFence but no issues at all.

The SSL plugin update is the only change to my website for the past 24 hours, so I am assuming it is related to that update, but of course, I am not 100% sure. I cannot get in to investigate.

Update: I just saw Jetpack updated at 1 a.m. EST so not sure if it is Jetpack. Jetpack (from version 11.8.4 to 11.9

@elcheapoflags We’re not aware of any login issues at the moment, but you can check if it is related to Really Simple SSL by going to your server using FTP or your file manager, then rename the plugin folder in wp-content/plugins/really-simple-ssl to really-simple-ssl-backup

If the issue persists, it is something else. Otherwise we can try to narrow it down further.

@rogierlankhorst Thank you. I was able to get in after changing that folder name. Here is a screenshot where it is saying Really Simple SSL needs an update: https://snipboard.io/VQFG0K.jpg

Really Simple SSL Pro auto-updated at 1 a.m. EST today – 12 hours after Really Simple SSL. But that update did not resolve the login issue. What resolved it was renaming the Really SImple SSL plugin folder in my CPanel as you suggested. But, of course, this is a temporary fix.

    How do I proceed?

P.S. This is the fatal error that began yesterday on my site after the Really Simple SSL plugin update:

@elcheapoflags Thanks for the logs. The issue was caused by a stricter capability check, causing a function not to be available. This resulted in the error you noticed in the logs.

If you update both plugins, you can then activate them again without issues. (6.2.2 and 6.2.3).

    That should resolve the problem.

@rogierlankhorst Thank you! That did it. All good. Thank you for the prompt assistance.
