(Simply) Guest Author Name

Since the guest author plugin is designed to override the registered user, you would have to remove the guest author name from the posts where you want the registered user to show up.

Hi, thank you for the reply. so that means I need to disable the plugin to have the register/login option to my site.

But when I disable the plugin, the author names for previously published posts are lost.

Is there a way to retain the guest author names?

You can use both options if you delete the guest authors from any post where you don’t want the guest author to show up.

I tried that. It doesn’t solve the issue. If you try my website, you will see the clearer picture.

You would have to point me to a specific post and explain the issue. Are you saying that you delete the guest author from the post but that it still shows up? That is something that we can fix if so.

Your other option is to have a developer create registered users for all of your guest authors and then eliminate the plugin.

Let me describe the entire scenario again.

1. The plugin has been working fine for me for over 2 years, when authors submit their articles via email and I am the one to publish manually from the backend.

2. Now that the volume of submission is high, I want authors to publish content as registered users so that my work is reduced. (I only review and approve publications)

3. As I upgraded the site to support registered users, logged in users are seeing the same author name on all the posts, and on the navigation bar instead of seeing the registered user’s name, they see the post owner’s name that keeps changing from post to post.

4. I want to retain the original post author’s name I had previously with the Guest author plugin.

5. If I disable the plugin, all the published posts lose their author names and set to ‘Admin’.

Solution required:

a. Retain the Guest Author Plugin and have the author names correctly displayed.
b. Or disable the plugin but retain the guest author names as it is.

Please help.

Ok, I have been having a hard time understanding the issue.

You are staying that the Guest Author that is on the post is NOT overriding the registered user name, correct? That would be a bug. The guest author, if filled in on the post, should always override the registered user name. If it is not filled in on the post, it shouldn’t. It’s very simple.

The guest author name goes by the post only, not by the registered user. If a registered owner adds a new post, the guest author name does not get carried over from previous posts.

You would not be able to disable the plugin and retain the guest author names since the plugin is where the magic happens.

I think you still haven’t understood the issue. Let me break it down again.

I visit the website https://www.merakmag.com as a guest.
I see all the posts written by one author. WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. I open a post and it displays the correct author name.

Now I login as a registered user. My user name is ‘feroz7’ and it is displayed at the right top corner of the website.

Now I visit the home page. Still all the posts are written by one user.
I click open a post written by an author; ‘Emily’ for example.

Now the post opens and displays the correct author name. But now, my username at the top right corner is changed to ‘Emily’. Weird.

Disabling the plugin fixes it, but all my posts turn to be authored by ‘Admin’. (It loses it’s author info fixed by the plugin)

Ah, ok. I think that I see the issue now.

When a registered user is logged in, the author names and the name of the logged in user are not correct.

Would that sum it up? This does not happen in the premium version. I will see if I can fix it in the free version.

Did you even check the screenshots attached?

I have two different issues. One is that guest author names aren’t showing correctly in the home page. Link – https://merakmag.com
(All the post has the same author name which is not correct)

Secondly when a user is logged in and he opens a random post by a different author, the user’s name is changed to the post author’s name.
