Simply activating he plugin consumes major server resources

Has anyone else noticed recently that simply installing and activating this plugin causes major server resource consumption?

I read in a couple of older messages about this, although those messages did not reference which version of the plugin was being used. I also read where the developer said that the plugin is generally not doing anything unless specific actions are happening; however, that has unfortunately not been my experience.
