Simplish theme : Can’t add Image

Im trying to add this image:
https://static.technorati.com/pix/fave/tech-fav-1.gif

To my sidebar at:
https://www.thumbleaf.com

I’m using the Simplish theme so I can not do this using the text widget as it will not appear.

So I tried editing sidebar.php. But whatever I do I can’t get the image to show up -below is the full sidebar.php for simplish theme.

I have added my own div outside of the standard div with the list tags:

*Any clues ? If I put some text instead of the image inside the tag it shows. Thanks!
