We are having two issues with simplified summaries. The first is that the summaries are inserting themselves into the excerpt area in blog post lists on the front end. The second issue is that the first summary we entered in Accessibility Checker inserted itself into places like the end of some forms or code modules in the editing window of multiple pages and posts. When I delete the summary from AC, it goes away. This does not show on the front end. It seems like it was popping up at the end of items with warnings like an embedded MailChimp signup form.

We’ve removed the summaries from AC are are adding them directly into the post body instead. Maybe this is a theme or plugin conflict. We were wondering if you’ve seen this before or if you have any suggestions to remedy. The theme is Divi. WordPress 6.6.2. All software is up to date.

We love Accessibility Checker. It’s really helping us work on our accessibility features. Thank you for all the work you have put into this plugin.

    Hey @alypara18,

Thank you for using the plugin, and I’m sorry you are having an issue with this.

I haven’t encountered this particular issue before—where the summary is being duplicated or added inside elements that it isn’t expected to be with—but I will dig into the code and see what I can spot.

About the MailChimp embed, are you using a specific plugin to add that to the pages, or does that feature come with the Divi theme by default?

If you have a developer on your team one solution could be to use the code based injection method to set the simplified summary location on your pages: https://equalizedigital.com/accessibility-checker/readability/#16-simplified-summary-position

Once I have had a chance to take a look into this and figure it out for you I will reply here and let you know what I have found.

Thanks for your quick response! There isn’t a specific plugin. The form is a text module with an embed code provided from MailChimp after using their form builder. The instructions we followed are here (in the “How to Embed a Form on Your Website” section toward the bottom): https://mailchimp.com/resources/embed-forms/. Maybe we need to try rebuilding and embedding it. The one we are using has a few accessibility issues and maybe they have improved their embedded forms. You can see the form on our home page in the Subscribe to newsletter section.

Thanks for the link to the code based injection method. We’ll try it out.

I have screenshots of the excerpt issue if you would like them.

    Hey @alypara18,

Sorry for the long delay between replies here. I tested this and was unable to reproduce the same issue you faced but I have more time today to dedicate towards getting a solution here for you on it.

If you could share those screenshots of the issue that would helpful in me seeing the problem to get more ideas of how to reproduce it and solve it.

I tested a fresh post this morning with a default mailchimp embed form generted following those same instructions you linked to. I placed the embed code inside of an HTML block in the editor and in the preview and on the frontend published post I see the form and a summary that appears only at the end of the post.

    Hi William,

Thanks for your update. I uploaded the screen shots as follows:

#1 Sample of Blog Page Index:
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1b15AqSAbMVUgaFEaLm_Ls1lwg-CX8pke/view?usp=drive_link

#2 Sample of Latest Blog Post teaser on the Home page: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GSmoVv5H0OGGi28hsZJ8snPvigkgk6pj/view?usp=drive_link

In both cases, you can see the excerpt at the top of the description as it should be, but the simplified summary shows immediately below it. Maybe it’s a conflict with Divi’s post slider module. It’s what we’re using to display the latest post on both pages. We do not have the issue when using the Blog Module which displays a grid of posts with titles and excerpts below the latest post on the Blog page index.

I tried to duplicate the issue with the embedded HTML code in the editing window so that I could get a screen shot for you and it seems to be fixed now. Plugins and themes have been updated several times since we had this issue. Perhaps it was a software conflict that has been fixed.

    Thanks!
