The majority of our customers are exempt because we are a B2B company. Is there a more streamlined process for exemption that doesn’t require a login and they can simply attach a copy of their certificate at checkout?

We would even be ok with a notice that says “Your order will be on hold until we receive a copy of your exemption certificate after checkout.”

Right now our customers are continually frustrated and blocked when attempting to first, create an account and then second, have the certificate validation constantly reject their information.

Our checkout dropoffs increased by nearly 15% as a result of exemption complications.

We would be willing to pay for this kind of modification if possible.

    Hi Craig,

Unfortunately TaxCloud’s APIs don’t support this use case. I’m required to pass a unique identifier for the customer when creating an exemption certificate, and the only way I can get that with WooCommerce is to require customers to create an account and authenticate before they add a certificate.

You could possibly hack around this with some custom code – authorizing the payment for first time exempt customers instead of capturing it, putting the order on hold, and later recalculating taxes and capturing payment after the exemption certificate is uploaded – but unfortunately I don’t have the bandwidth to take on a project like that at this time.

With all of that said, we just released an update that might help with some of the errors your customers are observing when attempting to add certificates, so you might want to update and see if that doesn’t help to reduce frustration a bit.

Sorry I can’t be of more help!

    All the best,
    Brett
