simple tagging hack?

hi – i’m trying to make simple tagging links perform native wp search query – i installed the module “simple tagging plugin” but do not want to click the “convert categories” button because I will lose all of my categories.

So – instead – I thought I could do the below:

1. tags are list at bottom of each post
2. user clicks on tag
3. this tag would be submitted to the wp “s” function
4. results would output similar to if user typed into the search input text field and hit “submit’ button.

i’m not an expert when it comes to php so have not been able to get this to work… or even where to find the code i need to put into my template….

any help would be much appreciated… if i can make it work i think it would be a great hack for other people that have the same problem after upgrading wordpress to 2.7
