• Using the venerable Simple PHP Gallery with a fresh WordPress 2.0.1 installation has proven problematic at best. When integrated with WordPress it will make apache send a 404 header but then the page’s content with it. This doesn’t seem to bother most browsers, but IE chokes on it intermittently.

If I strip out all the integration elements or use it without mod_rewrite it works just fine. The mod_rewrite rules themselves don’t seem to be the problem. I have realized that If I change the permalink setting in pordpress to the ugly default (the one with the visible “?”) then I can use the rewriting with my integrated Simple PHP Gallery.

So, it looks like it’s a one or the other situation. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to work? It seems to work just fine with wordpress 1.5.2 as evidenced on DVD Jon’s weblog:

I will continue to see if I can find any way around this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

This, unfortunately appears to be a bug in WordPress 2.0.1 as discussed in this thread

If you look closely you will see that the problem is with using mod_rewrite in both WordPress and Simple PHP Gallery. You are not implementing any URL Rewriting in your installation of Simple PHP Gallery, and you have no problems, just like described in my original post.

    Nice gallery, though. Well integrated.

I got it to work, finally, just not the way it’s supposed to. There is a bug in WordPress 2.0.1 and its PHP implementation of internal rewriting rules. If you force it to write out all of its rewrite rules to an .htaccess file then it works as expected. That is the temporary solution until the bug is fixed.

ohh ok, i see what you are saying, ill play with my rewrite rules and see what i get.
