• I have been using Joomla on my website for awhile and have been thinking about converting to WordPress.

I have hundreds of files available on my website for users (no login required) that I upload through FTP (FTP is faster for uploading alot of files). So what my users see on the main menu is a link to a “download” page, they click the link and it takes them to a page with the whole directory listed (folders = categories) and everything is clickable and takes them directly to that folder/file. Super plain and easy to use.

The one I use on Joomla is PhocaDownload. Before that, on a plain html website I used SNIF but it had to be in an iframe for me to display it on my site and still let visitors see my main menu (SNIF hasn’t been maintained in over a decade). This is what it looks like:

Is it possible to get something like this for WordPress without spending money?

  • Hello, this is possible without any software.

If you use Apache you can add

    Options + Indexes

In the .htaccess file in the ftp folder, when you then open this folder in your webbrowser all the files and folders are listed.
