the color coding of events is in the works and it’s coming up nicely (also with private calendars, list attachments, list attendees..)

as for the list/grid switching, the new plugin will support calendar types, meaning, anyone can introduce new calendars altogether so at some point we can have a calendar that behaves like the one you described

but we are doing this in steps, so for now the default calendar will be an improved version of the existing one; next step is to improve that further and introduce theme templates support for customization, and then start developing new calendars altogether

although there are many new things in the beta (especially in the admin part) most changes are under the hood and the direction is to make the plugin extensible – because it has many case uses, a way to support them all without overstuffing the plugin with options and choices, it’s to allow creating extensions/add-ons to introduce unique features

After disabling GCE, I tried to install the Beta version. But the installation failed. The destination directory already exists.

Hi thanks for trying out the beta

yes it’s the current plugin so the destination directory is the same

and because how www.remarpro.com plugin directory works it’s kept in the same directory as before google-calendar-events despite the name change

I would recommend to install this NOT on a live website, but on a test website, locally or somewhere you don’t particularly care (well, it’s called a beta for a reason). If you do so, you can deactivate the old plugin, delete it via FTP and replace it with the one you found in the zip file. The plugin comes with a few changes and updates the previous feeds and some settings. There’s no way back, hence the recommendation – or if you know what to do, a backup is in order.

aware there’s a bug in Firefox (desktop/mobile) while displaying the calendar grid, if you notice this don’t worry it’s going to be fixed before release, likewise for other CSS glitches in front end display

    Hello,
First of all, great plugin. I like almost every improvement you provide in this new version.

Just a question though, is it possible to display events in day view in format similar to the one in Google Calendar day view, in which you also showed hours where there’s no event?

    Example: https://i.imgur.com/KhzRdYH.png

It maybe a good idea to provide alternatives to the grid view not limited to the full month calendar, but also a weekly or daily view. I can change the modify the settings to daily/weekly/monthly/yearly in list view, but can’t seem to get it to work in grid view.

    Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for your feedback

Yes understood about the day/weekly view and others have brought it up too

At the moment you can have two views, the list and the grid.

I think for this upcoming version there’s no time to stuff more features.

But the plugin it’s going to have a revised architecture to build further upon, including supporting more calendars in the future. There’s still quite some work to do there.

@axelderoubaix regarding the html attribute in the event tags I noticed there was an error but it will work eventually, like so [description html=”yes”] (or ‘true’, it’s the same)

It’d be nice to have the option to set ‘with_front’ => false

    Hi all

those who have subscribed the newsletter should know this already but yesterday we released a new and hopefully final beta (beta2)

the zip file can be found here

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/2smkb3xe50rnvga/simple-calendar-3.0.0-beta2.zip?dl=1

thanks to your feedback this version introduces a lot of bugfixes and improvements, but also a new setting (under Calendar panel -> appearance) to tune some colors in the calendar, so it can adapt even more to your tastes and current WordPress theme

the same precautions as the previous beta apply: preferably do not run it in a live server, do backups if you have sensitive data

please clean your google-calendar-events directory before updating the plugin to the new beta

I hope we can release 3.0.0 by next week on regular www.remarpro.com updates

V2 had a setting to remove the calendar pagination (ability to see additional events), I can’t seem to find in on v3, does it exist?

I’m able to limit the visible events to the number I want, but not remove the pagination for previous events.

The link to the Google Calendar for “More details” doesn’t work on mobile, it tries to force the user to the desktop version of Google Calendar and ends up not loading anything. It would be better to use a link that’s also mobile friendly and can work across devices and opens the Google Calendar app if the user has it.
