We have had a problem on one of our sites (the only one using Simple Backup) where the main .htaccess file was constantly being rewritten whenever the site was loaded. I could open my FTP client, load the site in a browser, and see the date/time stamp on the htaccess file update to the date/time I had just visited the site.

This caused issues occasionally where the htaccess file would become corrupt as it was trying to update itself over and over and over.

Turns out that something the Simple Backup plugin was causing this. I am not sure what, but as soon as I disabled the plugin, that all stopped.

Has anyone else had an issue like this?

  • I am having a problem with the Ultra version and ultra developer version on some sites where they become immediately inaccessible until the plugin is removed via the website control panel. (‘The white screen of death’)

In fairness, the free version works fine for me.

More annoyingly, I don’t seem to be able to get any response from the support or via email,

When I raise the issue on MyWebsiteAdvisor’s Facebook page, my posts get removed.

    Good luck!

This plugin should not be modifying the main .htaccess file, it should be creating one to secure the “simple-backup/” directory. We have added an option to the pluign to enable or disable the automatic .htaccess file creation which is most likely causing your problem. You can simply manually create the .htaccess file to secure the backup storage directory, directions have been included in the readme.txt file.

    Thank You!
