• Hi all,

This may be the dumbest question you’ve heard in a while, but I’m very new to the process of creating blogs.

Question: Is it possible to use WordPress to create and maintain a blog ON MY WEBSITE? i.e. I want to add a new nav item “Blog” and have it link to a page on my domain – a page which uses exactly the same design etc. as all my other pages. Is this possible?

Sorry if this has been asked previously. I had a good look around, and couldn’t find any other questions quite as silly as this.

    Cheers.

  • Yes, it is possible.
However, the link should go not to “page” of your website but to a directory where you’d install WP. For example:
    yoursite.com/blog
To make to look as your site – you will have a create a theme that looks exactly like your site.

    Thanks heaps, moshu!

That’s good news. One other thing… Am I right in assuming that the search value (or PR for want of a better term) of inbound links is attributed to my site / domain, as the blog is a sub-domain?

    Thanks again for your help!

    Cheers.

which search value? the searchvalue in your install will search in teh database you specify to use your blog on.

you can indeed install wordpress on a subdomain it works the same way when you install it on a subdirectory. me myself have wordpress on the domain itself as i use no other website or anything on it. makes no difference really.

Sorry… I meant the value of inbound links in increasing your search engine rank. I suppose the real question is, if/when other people link to my blog, would they be linking to mysite.com/blog.htm (or similar). ie. The link points to my domain.

And thanks again for your help.

    Cheers.

they link to the url you install wordpress on. (or any page offcoarse)

    if on the domain:
    https://www.yourdomain.com

    a folder:
    https://www.yourdomain.com/folder/

    or a sub-domain
    https://subthing.yourdomain.com

    this also counts for searchmachines…

so if you have a page and you use a subdomain. and someone links to that page it will be https://subthing.yourdomain.com/page/

    Brilliant!

Thanks so much, everyone, for your help. Think I’ll install WordPress and have a shot at it. I’m sure I’ll be back here before too long…

    Cheers and thanks again.
