• Hi,

I have installed and used the Silence is Golden Plugin. Now I cannot access my admin area (the admin login screen). All I get is a 404 page, meaning that I am locked out of my site. Just in case this matters: I do NOT use WP Super Cache. I DO use the W3 Cache plugin. Any help please?

Ok, I have done that – hopefully there will be a reply soon. Still, would love to hear from other users here, since I am locked out of my site right now… Thanks again for any help.

Reading through the plugin’s documentation, I’d guess that the cache plugin is causing the issue but the plugin developer does say that he will try to help with these kinds of problems if you contact him.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help with this. I am afraid my problem will be different, as I am not using WP Super Cache and also because I don’t get the redirect issue described in the plugin’s FAQ, but rather a 404 error. Bad situation.

The plugin’s author has only documented the issue with WP Super Cache – not W3 Cache. My guess is that he is working on fixes for the other cache plugins as and when they occur. What you could try is simply renaming the folder for the Silence is Golden plugin by just adding -old to the end of its name. In theory (and based on what I’ve just read about the plugin) this might be enough to get you back into your site. From what I can see, the plugin does not make any long term critical changes to anything.

I tried renaming the folder but nothing has changed. I seems that the Silence is Golden plugin inserted new index.php files into every WP folder and subfolder that did not have one. All these index.php files read as follows:

<?php
// This file was created automatically by Silence is Golden Guard plugin
header(“Location: https://www.go-llm.com/wp”);
?>

The effect is that (1) I can’t log as admin in b/c I get a 404 error page; and (2) when I click through the site (the front end is still kind of working), the links only work when I click twice or hit refresh, as the first click somehow redirects for all links to the https://www.mysite.com/wp directory and also produces a 404 page…

Awww… shoot! ?? The extra index.php files shouldn’t matter, though.

Hmmm, any other ideas? Delete or replace certain index.php file perhaps?
