The plugin is the included with the AWS bitnami WordPress lightsail instance.

With the same site, All In One WP Migration produces a 3GB backup file size while two other backup plugins I tried have the file sizes between 200 – 300MB. I’m alarmed by the significant file size.

The huge file size makes import and export time consuming and sometimes it gets stuck at 100% import which has to restart the process of importing again.

    My questions:

    1. What exactly does this plugin backup that others don’t?
    2. Does it work like the snapshot that clones the entire instance?
    3. How can one reduce the file size?

    My use case:
Duplicate for staging and production, and update the live site with the approved changes.

    Thanks

You can extract the backup with Traktor
You can then compare the contents and see what takes so much size.
Usually, it is the database, cache, log files.

Thanks. I am concerned with the confidentiality and security aspect of using an online extractor. What information is retained and shown?

Is there a setting to disable exporting cache and log files?

I am not discounting the plugin but just can’t wrapped my head around the significant difference of the file size. I experimented with making a small text edit and export it, it adds up another 400MB.

It is an application that you download and use onto your computer. The source code is also available. It does not collect any information.

Yes, but it is a premium feature.

Likely, something is generating these 400MB on your end – it can be many things – warnings, error logs, cache, backups.
