• I just completed a site with WordPress and haven’t advertise or submit to SEO yet but I am getting people registering on my site on a weekly basis. I do not have a sign-up form on my site. Where are these people from and how do they know where to sign up? Is this a spam or attack??

  • Do you have any contact form on your website? What is the message you are getting while some one sign-up? Is it at wp-admin ?

If you are speaking of actual user accounts, take a look at Dashboard > Settings > General and un-check “Anyone can register”.

Hi, no, there is not sign up form except a form for posting comments and some of the blog. There is no registration link there. People seems to find the wp-admin page somehow and sign up to the site. If they have posted comments, then I can understand why they signed up. I dont get any comments. Here is how it looks on the email.

New user registration on your site …..:
    Username: ……..
    Email:…….

    This is puzzling.

Seems there may be a flaw, are you sure registration is unchecked?

Yes, there is no where on my site for sign up except comments. People don’t have to sign up to comment but they will be checked before making public.

That does not guarantee “Anyone can register” is un-checked, and if you are getting user registrations even though “Anyone can register” truly *is* un-checked, then you possibly have a breach somewhere allowing someone to go directly to your database to add users. Otherwise, people might just be using the link that *would* be displayed if you were displaying it.
