Sign In endless loop

    Hello folks,

    my issue is a little bit tricky, but finaly im not going to find a solution by myself.

    I alreday managed in the past, to get Site Kit runnig on my acutal page with Analytics (but not with search console-data). Now I had to make some upgrades, i thought about changing my permalinks (but made some misstakes and so I used a backup and some sql corrections to reactivate my page) but now im am on a point, that I cant get site kite running again succesfully.

    I think, there is some issue with my WordPress/Website-Url and the redirections from google back to my backend. Also im not sure if my domain and Folder Structure is very well or if I do there some mistakes (thats why i tought about chancing my whole permalink-structure, but missmanaged that).

    My URL ist https://www.andi-szabo.de

    But my WP is installed in the subdirectory https://www.andi-szabo.de/blog at my hoster. So im not realy sure, which directorys i have to write down where.

    Ive spottet the case some times, when sign in to site kit, it redirects me to

    https://www.andi-szabo.de/blog/andi-szabo.de/wp-admin… and so on and gets a 404.

    When i manualy delete at the url beginning “www.andi-szabo.de/blog/” it brings the success screen, but when i come back to dashboard, i have to do the whole “sign in” thing again.

    – I also tried to change back from https://www.andi-szabo.de to https://www.andi-szabo.de

    – Some times it prompts me, to sign in https://www.andi.szabo.de – sometimes https://www.andi-szabo.de/blog

    – I reseted site kit.

    – I have no firewall and i dont think there is an issue at my hoster, beacuse before my backup-thing, site kit run (except of search console data).

    – I used incognito-mode,
    – i deactivated all plug ins beside of site kit.
    – I tried PHP 7.2, 7.3 and 7.4 at my hoster.

    Thx for your reply. Will check this. But I think, activation is not the topic, Site Kit is already activatet, but loops back to ?sign up“ every time.

    @reddakteur Thanks for reporting. To rule out the issue being hosting environment related do you have any other WordPress sites hosted on the same address which you can test Site Kit with?

    If there are no issues from your hosting setup as your WordPress site details differ in the general settings can you share both values you see, along with your full Site Health information?

    I ll try to install a second WP-Site next week and give you an update here.

    As mentioned in my first post, site kit already worked in past (analytics worked, search console worked not). After switching my Site-Adress from http to https it doenst work any more.

    @reddakteur truly appreciate the update. Upon further review, the issues may be what you suspected initially:

    1) We are working on this issue that occurs when the site URLs are updated after going through the setup process once before. Currently, the process does not recognize this change so it can lead to setup issues.

    We’ll update the thread when this is released. This is a high priority fix.

    2) Your WordPress Address and Site Address combination may be incompatible currently with the way Site Kit works. We have a chart in our documentation showing this under “Can’t Setup Site Kit.”

    I’m not sure if this is a special configuration, but it appears that your Site Address has the /blog directory, while your WordPress Address does not. This could cause issues with the Site Kit setup. (I checked the rest route of your site to find this)

    While our support is limited to just the plugin, if your intention is to place your WordPress files in a subdirectory perhaps you can reach out to the general WordPress support forum for further help.

    Little update: I made a second fresh installation for another url (same hoster) and it worked well. So I think, the subdirectory /blog-thing ist causing trouble ??

    @reddakteur thanks for the update! Yes, the combination could be the culprit. I will let you know when the fix referenced above is released in case that helps.

    @reddakteur I’m following up on your topic. We’ve released version 1.5.0 which has a fix for allowing URLs to update on the Site Kit service. As mentioned, we are not sure this will fully resolve the issue you have on https://www.andi-szabo.de/ since the Site Address is located on /blog, but if you’d like to try the update could you:

    1) Update the plugin to the latest version 1.5.0
    2) Reset Site Kit
    3) Proceed with the setup process

    Let us know if you are successfully connected.

    Dear Reene, thx a lot for your efforts. Just gave it a first try after update. Unfortunaly the url of the Last Step back to Site Kit is worng and some
    Kind of doubled (www.andi-szabo.de/blog/www.andi-szabo.de/wp-admin…. fixing this manualy doesnt work as well.

    @reddakteur thanks so much for the info. It appears the /blog subfolder for your Site Address is conflicting.

    We’re going to check with the team about your case, but could you by chance provide us your Site Health info again? We made some updates to provide information about Site Kit specifically.
