• Hello,

I have pages using the £ sign. They display perfectly. But if I “edit” any of these pages then when I update it or even preview it with no changes all the pound signs change to ? inside black diamonds.

Note they only display wrong AFTER putting them into Guttenberg editor.

So I go to edit the page and delete the £ sign. I replace it with £ but as soon as I update the page Guttenberg changes it back to a £ sign (in the code editor) and the page is now not displaying properly but I can’t fix it.

    Please help

    Andy

Additional information: if I changed to visual editor, and delete the £ sign and then retype it then it doesn’t make any difference. I would expect that if I am in the visual editor and I type £ then the Gothenburg editor would use the correct HTML. But when I do this and update the page the £ still displays as a ? inside a black diamond.

What I am most puzzled about is that these £’s are displaying perfectly okay, and have done for years. It is only if I go to edit mode on one of these pages, then instantly this £ sign gets corrupted and can’t be changed back even with the proper alt code £.

My WordPress site has been up for over 12 years so I can’t see how it could be a setup issue?
