Sidebar to show multiple widgets, all restricted to the category of the blog?

Hi guys,

I’ve got a blog with a sidebar with a bunch of plugins:

• Recent Posts
• Recent Comments
• Popular widget: Most Commented
• Archive

I’ve created a Cake Blog and a Sandwich Blog, which show posts from Category Cake and Category Sandwich respectively.

Is there a way to restrict the widgets above on Cake Blog so they only show Cake-categorised posts and comments? And the same for Sandwich blog? There are lots of threads about doing this for a single widget (most from four years ago) but none about applying this to a number of widgets. If the plugins above included a ‘filter by category’ function then I could combine that with something like ‘display widgets’, but none of them does.

Is there already a plugin that does this? Or is there some code I can add to functions.php that will do the whole sidebar? Or do I have to search out a complete new set of widgets with category filtering in natively?
