• I am using a 3 column theme – it has “widgets” – I put it in parenthesis because I downloaded the plugin for sidebars. All things that came with my theme are also in this plugin. but soon as I use the plugin, all things in the theme’s sidebars disappears. I guess that would be ok, but I want to edit inbetween some of the “widgets” – not sure where, if I should or should not use the plugin and either way, where would I add some code – I can’t find the right place and don’t know if altering the theme to use the plugin would make a differenced anyway

  • I’m not familiar with the widgets yet, but maybe something over here will help? Good luck!

With widgets, you don’t edit the sidebar code anymore. That’s sort of the whole point. You use widgets instead. The theme’s sidebars disappear because you’re not using the old sidebars anymore. It replaces them with widgetized sidebars. Look in the admin screen under Presentation->Sidebar Widgets. You can drag and drop the widgets into your sidebars.

Lots of widget plugins can be found here: https://widgets.wordpress.com

If you absolutely *must* put code of your own in the sidebar with widgets, then use my ExecPHP widget. It will let you make a PHP widget that you can place like any other, and you can edit the code it uses directly. You can get it here: https://ottodestruct.com/blog/2006/04/09/fun-with-widgets/

Also on the widgets page you’ll see options towards the bottom that allow you to choose the amount of text widgets you’d like, these text widgets allow html, for adding photos, or other things you might choose to add.
