Sidebar pages no longer working
-
Trying to read some of the other topics here I realised how untechnical I am! Sorry in advance for using the wrong terminology.
I think I upgraded to 2.3.4 yesterday. As far I can tell/remember everything was working fine just before I went to bed around 20 hours ago. But today when I woke up the site wouldn’t load and it showed an internal server error message from the hosting company. On contacting them they said it was nothing to do with them; something in WordPress was the issue.
On further investigation it’s only pages that use the sidebar that are affected (which is Home, News and Shop for me), everything else loads fine. I’ve been able to restore Home and Shop by switching off the sidebar but News still won’t load.
I tried to access my widgets page to see if something was wrong with the sidebar but I get the “This is somewhat embarrassing isn’t it?” message. I instead went to plug-ins and tried to deactivate all but was greeted with the same message. Going through one by one I’ve managed to deactivate them all apart from Jetpack which is why I’m assuming it’s the source of the problem (it gives me the embarrassing message again).
When I first started investigating I saw a strange half-loaded News page that appeared to be trying to load the entire site within the sidebar. Not sure if that’s relevant or just a quirk of it not working properly.
That’s all I can think of for now. Please help!
