I am using the GP PRO theme/plugin.

This plugin seems really easy to configure, but it’s not working for me. I created a new sidebar called “Product Categories” and then added the WooCommerce Product Categories widget to it. I then opened the “Shop” page, and selected the new “Product Categories” sidebar to use instead of the default Left Sidebar. But when I refresh the page (even after emptying the page cache), I still see the default left sidebar, which is a feed from my Facebook page.

I imagine I am overlooking something very basic since this is the second such plugin that isn’t working for me. The other one I’ve tried is Content Aware Sidebar, but I saw the same behavior – the original sidebar shows instead of the new one I’ve created/configured.

P.S. Following instructions on another thread, I found that the sidebar is successfully displayed on the Product Detail page, providing I select the option “Left Sidebar for selected Post Types” on the new sidebar and then select “Products”. But the problem remains on the WooCommerce Shop page.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello @allenwilson,

Can you check if you switch to another WordPress theme like Twenty Seventeen then it will start to work on that page? We would need first exclude that this is a theme conflict.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

Thank you for using Custom Sidebars. I am going to mark this topic resolved because we haven’t heard from you in awhile. If this issue was not resolved we can reopen it. Thanks again!

Can this be reopened? I responded via email but I never heard anything back from anyone.

I had asked if it was safe to do that because I have spent a lot of time customizing the theme that I have, which is GeneratePress. I do not want to risk losing my work.

That said, I do not see an option to select the Shop page from the Widget area. The only way I have been able to configure a replacement is on the Shop page itself.

Also, this is a live site – so changing the theme would really be problematic.
